PROGRAM UPDATE
Here’s what happened this month at SAATH:

AWASAR

Monitoring Visit to Dhanushadham

We visited our training center in Dhanushadham this month to monitor Batch C developments and challenges. Batch C is now towards the end of their training period and identification of their plans and engagements is important to support what livelihood options they wish to pursue.

During the monitoring visit, we also had an opportunity to carry out a needs assessment for the new batch of Tailoring and Mithila Art training. We were also able to meet with the local stakeholders and discuss our work during the visit.

Need Assessment for Batch D

We are now towards the conclusion of Batch C beneficiaries of  Mithila and Tailoring Training. With the training almost toward the end for this batch, need assessment is ongoing to welcome the new batch of trainees from 6 different Musahar and Dom communities from Sarsa, Mungraha, Makkhanpur, Tejnagar, Mangalpur and Sundarpur of Dhanushadham. A total of 32 beneficiaries will join us in February for the Basic and Advanced Level of Tailoring and Mithila Art training.
HAKUNA MATATA

Capacity Building
This month we conducted a workshop on Social Skills for the 11 children of Hakuna Matata. We are currently in Year 3 of the 5 years engagement with the children. The workshop in January was designed with an aim to support the children in understanding emotions and reactions, and problem identification.

Parahu

Teacher’s Training for the Facilitators

The 3 facilitators of Project Parahu were at Kathmandu for a 3 day long training on teaching and learning. The training was done in support of Sutra for Leaders to upskill the facilitators personal as well as professional capacity. The workshop focused on managing large classrooms, psychosocial self-care and others, using community as a resource, resource plan, monthly and weekly planning and so on.

Stationery Distribution

A second round of stationery distribution was conducted at the learning center for the 250 children this month as well. The stationery materials are distributed every month to ensure that children have access to all the necessary resources required to learn.

To support the community of children for a sustained and longer period, we are still raising funds for the learning center. The fund raised will support 190 children along with the 3 facilitators of a Musahar community who visit the learning center every day to conduct literacy classes for the children in the community. We have begun the project activity at the moment.
