of and for women with CFLI

In support of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, SAATH has been providing Advanced Level Training on Embroidery and Mithila Art to 15 women from Janakpur.

Janakpur is a sub metropolitan city that lies in the Dhanusha district and Madhesh province of Nepal. Although the capital of the Madhesh province, Janakpur has a long way to go in terms of level of literacy, socio-economic development, caste and gender based discrimination that exists even today. A hub to tourists, Janakpur from the inside still struggles to bring forth its women to the mainstream social and economic interaction.

Strengthening Economic Independence of Marginalized Women through Production-based Economy as a project aims to enhance the living conditions of women by fostering income generation through a community-based approach.

The project incorporates market-based production with a Shop Setup in Janakpur that will be backed by the production unit formed after the advanced-level training concludes.

Batch A concludes

On December 23, 2024, we had the Closing Ceremony of Batch A Training on Master Tailor, Embroidery and Knitting. Participants attended the closing event after completing their theoretical and practical evaluation tests, and received certificates and resources that will be valuable for their future practice.

The completion of the training qualifies selected participants for on-the-job training opportunities at Danfe Works Enterprises Nepal.

Supported by ONGD FNEL, the project is in its first year and enrollment for the second batch has begun. 12 women will participate in an 8-month long Master Tailor and Embroidery training in January, 2025.

Training Opportunity at Danfe Works

Danfe Works is our Sustainability Partner.

Together with Danfe, we have introduced a 1-day/ 2-day and a 10-day Embroidery course open to anyone interested in learning and applying embroidery skills. This training will be a continuous initiative, providing long-term support to SAATH's training participants. The cost of the Embroidery course starts at NPR 600. The participants will learn over 10 hand embroidery stitches. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to create an embroidered product to take home.
