Newsletter: SAATH x CFLI

On this issue of SAATH Newsletter, we will be highlighting our engagement with Canada Fund for Local Initiatives in the year 2023-24. From June 2023- February 2024, we ran our project "Strengthening Income-Generation Capacities of Skilled and Semi-Skilled Women and Adolescent Girls from Marginalized Communities in Dhanusha district, Nepal" in support of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.

45 women from Musahar communities in Dhanushadham municipality received 3 sets of product-based training

Followed by TOT on three skill sets for the trainers, advanced level and product-based training was provided in Embroidery, Mithila Art, and Zero Waste Fabric/ Patchwork from June 2023 to 45 women and adolescent girls from Dhanushadham Municipality.
The training was divided into 3 groups of 15 women each learning a new skill set. Production of products based in Embroidery, Mithila Art and Crochet Work was done in support of Danfe Works Enterprises Nepal (DWEN). DWEN stepped in to support the training and production process, as a result of which On the Job Training was provided to 16 women and girls, 8 selected from each of the first 2 groups. A total of 16 made market-based products in this process as a result of which Awasar Production Unit has been formed.

In addition to the product-based training, the project participants also received training in business management, financial literacy, and life skills to support their social development. The Life Skills training focused on Communication, SRHR, Habit formation, Leadership, and Nutrition.

Currently, a pool of 16 women are members of the Production Unit and becoming members of the Women's Collective in Janakpur. Additionally, Danfe Works has been facilitating the marketplace for demand, marketing, and sales of the products developed by the pool of women.

"Strengthening Income-Generation Capacities of Skilled and Semi-Skilled Women and Adolescent Girls from Marginalized Communities in Dhanusha district, Nepal" supported by Canada Fund for Local Initiatives was a 9-month long project implemented by SAATH to facilitate the socio-economic development of women from marginalized communities in Nepal.
