Highlight of the Month
"Dulaari Makes Its Way to Dhanusha and Saptari"
Dulaari is a community-driven initiative focused on advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for women and adolescent girls.

Guided by the comprehensive Dulaari Manual, the program is tailored to the cultural and social realities of communities across Madhesh and Bagmati provinces of Nepal.

Dulaari operates through two core pillars: Education and Access.

The Dulaari Manual serves as a hands-on tool for trainers, facilitators, and community leaders.

Through Dulaari, we envision communities where women and girls are equipped not only with knowledge but also with the confidence, access and agency to claim their rights and make informed decisions about their health and lives.

In Janakpur, the workshop was facilitated by Ms. Jyoti Sada, one of our SRHR Defenders, who received a TOT on Dulaari, a community-driven initiative focused on advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for women and adolescent girls.

Through this workshop, we engaged directly with the Musahar community, supporting women and adolescent girls to better understand their sexual and reproductive health and rights.

This initiative is carried out in support of ONGD FNEL, committed to advancing the social development of marginalized communities in Nepal.
The 6-day community-based SRHR workshop concluded with ACCESS to menstrual hygiene product for the participants. As part of our commitment to access, we distributed menstrual hygiene kits to 40 women and girls in Janakpur from 2 different Musahar communities of Chhiresworenath, supporting dignified and informed menstrual health practices.

The distribution took place in the presence of the Ward Chair and the Head of the Health Department, underscoring strong local support and collaboration.

Additionally, an SRHR workshop was conducted for 40 women and adolescent girls in Agnisair Krishnasawaran Rural Municipality of Saptari district. Following a similar approach, the workshop was facilitated by an SRHR Defender and a Community Mobilizer at a local community building.

Upon completion of the six-days workshop, 40 menstrual hygiene kits were distributed to the participants.

In addition to the community-based workshop, we are also conducting workshop on Menstrual Hygiene and Management in the Bagmati province in collaboration with Danfe Works. We conducted a one day workshop with the production unit of SAATH and the manufacturers of Docha shoes in the month of June. The workshop was complemented by the distribution of Menstrual Hygiene Kit for the participants.

The workshop is being facilitated by the Kathmandu based SRHR Defenders.

"Production on full swing"

Our production team in Janakpur currently consists of 8 dedicated women trained in Mithila art and embroidery, guided by 2 experienced trainers. In June, we had the opportunity to visit them in Janakpur, where we engaged in meaningful discussions about the challenges they face and the opportunities ahead. Working with this group has truly been a blessing for us. Their willingness to learn and unwavering enthusiasm continue to inspire and motivate us every day.

"Circularity in Fabric"

“Circularity in Fabric” focuses on the production of zero-waste fabric by involving women from marginalized communities and creating market connections for the products developed. The fashion industry generates approximately 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually, and this number is projected to rise to 134 million tonnes by 2030. Despite the vast amount of discarded materials, only 12% of textiles are recycled, contributing to significant environmental concerns. Addressing this challenge, the concept of Zero Waste focuses on conserving resources through responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery without harming the environment.

“Circularity in Fabric” emphasizes the production of zero-waste fabric by involving women from marginalized communities and creating market connections for the products developed.

SAATH and Danfe Works aim to connect with communities practicing traditional and indigenous skills, creating a marketplace for their products and skills.

The collaboration “Circularity in Fabric” emphasizes the production of zero-waste fabric by involving women from marginalized communities and creating market connections for the products developed. DWEN, as the marketplace, will help participants generate continued income, even after the project's conclusion.
