"Dulaari"
"Dulaari" is a community-driven initiative focused on advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for women and adolescent girls. Grounded in the idea that awareness and agency drive better health outcomes, Dulaari supports women and adolescent girls in strengthening their negotiation and decision-making skills around their bodies, health, and futures.

Guided by the comprehensive Dulaari Manual, the program is tailored to the cultural and social realities of communities across Madhesh and Bagmati provinces. Dulaari operates through two core pillars: Education and Access.

a. Education: Providing accurate, age-appropriate, and context-sensitive information on SRHR.
b. Access: Distribution of Menstrual Hygiene Kit and facilitating links to essential SRHR services and safe spaces where women and girls can seek support without fear or stigma.

The Dulaari Manual serves as a hands-on tool for trainers, facilitators, and community leaders. It simplifies complex concepts, encourages open dialogue, and fosters critical thinking, making SRHR education both accessible and actionable.

Through Dulaari, we envision communities where women and girls are equipped not only with knowledge but also with the confidence and agency to claim their rights and make informed decisions about their health and lives.

In this line, SAATH conducted a Training of Trainers (TOT) on Dulaari last month. Participants from Madhesh and Bagmati provinces attended the TOT.

The TOT produced a number of noteworthy results. The assessment of participant’s knowledge before and after the workshop reveals a discernible increase in the number of areas like human rights, women’s rights, sexual and reproductive health rights, family planning and contraceptive devices, menstrual health/hygiene management, STDs, safe abortion, safe motherhood and the ability to defend their SRHR and make the public aware regarding these issues. Some of the Participants were able to acquire knowledge on new themes like gender, sex and sexuality.

In addition to the TOT and community based training, Dulaari also aims to create a pool of SRHR Defenders who will focus on facilitating and disseminating the two core pillars of Dulaari.

PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIAL

“I found the experience to be very inclusive and engaging as it provided a much-needed safe space for each of the participants to learn, unlearn and relearn. What I’m most grateful for, however, is learning how to approach these sensitive topics with empathy and respect, while still challenging the taboos that surround them. It’s a lesson I’ll carry forward in both personal conversations and future advocacy.”
- Bibhuti Adhikari, SRHR Defender, Bagmati Province
