PROGRAM UPDATE
Here’s what happened this month at SAATH:

AWASAR

This month, the beneficiaries of Advanced Level Mithila Art Training participated in the State Level 2nd Women's Handicraft Fair organized by Federations of Handicraft Associations of Nepal in Janakpurdham. The fair was conducted to connect local artists with the market and promote Mithila Art. The beneficiaries along with our trainer participated in the 3-day exhibition and interacted with other artists to exchange knowledge and information on Mithila Art.

While the trainees of Mithila Art are exploring the local market, we are also in the process of establishing a Tailoring shop at Makhanpur, Dhanushadham to support our beneficiaries to pursue their developed skills. Two of our past beneficiaries will take charge of the space and cater to the needs of the locality. SAATH will initially support them in establishing the shop and the ownership will be transferred as they gain confidence in pursuing the learned skills professionally.
Marketing Mithila Art

After 6 months of Basic training, 4 beneficiaries move forward to Advanced Level of Mithila Art training where they engage for another 6 months to learn thoroughly and become experts in the making of Mithila Art. The advanced level beneficiaries this time have created Mithila Art reflecting on their day-to-day engagements and the values the art holds. The Art will be on display at SAATH and we will be selling the hand-painted Mithila Art using different platforms. You can directly reach us at 9801800985 to learn more about the variety we have and purchase them. The proceeds from the sales will be provided to the artists.

With the support of The Pollination Project grant, we are working with five women who have lost their jobs due to the lockdown caused by COVID-19. At present, these  women are engaged in home based employment opportunities.

HAKUNA MATATA: Project Parahu

After securing an initial fund for the project last month through GlobalGiving, we are invested in kick-starting the project this month. We conducted a Diagnostic Test for the 190 children at the learning center of Dhanusadham to find out their learning levels. This is the starting point of our intervention at the community learning center. We are currently analyzing the results from the test to group the children and support them on the basis of their current learning level.

For Project Parahu, we have been able to raise $5346 from 54 wonderful individuals so far. To support the community of children for a sustained and longer period, we are still raising funds for the learning center. The fund raised will support 190 children along with the 3 facilitators of a Musahar community who visit the learning center every day to conduct literacy classes for the children in the community. We have begun the project activity at the moment.
