Global Giving September Accelerator

The September Accelerator has begun!

We are raising $5000 from 40 individuals to support a community of children in Dhanushadham. The funds raised will also support the training of facilitators who engage with the children on a daily basis. The fundraiser is now live and will end on September 30, 2021!

We need your support to become a permanent member of the GlobalGiving community.

PROGRAM UPDATE
Here’s what happened this month at SAATH:

AWASAR

A follow-up visit to our past beneficiaries was conducted by Mr. Laxmi Sada, Field Coordinator at Dhanushadham this month. On visiting their homes, we found that most of them were making use of the sewing machines that were provided at the end of their training period.

At present, Basic and Advanced level of training on Tailoring and Mithila Art is being conducted by the trainers based in Janakpur. The training center at Dhanushadham houses 32 women and adolescent girls at once with education classes as another ongoing activity to support their literacy skills.

HAKUNA MATATA

This month we conducted three virtual workshops on public issues, group and organizational skills, influencing decisions, and strategic planning and resources mobilizing. Also, we completed the first session of boot camp on the 10th of September. We are now at the last phase of our second year from this five year long program, which we will wrap up after  conducting Boot camp and Evaluation of beneficiaries and begin our third year with the theme social skills.

Message from a former colleague

My journey with SAATH goes back to 2018 when I was interning in Program Hakuna Matata. I still remember the day when I was asked to take a non-formal education class for the women in Program Awasar. It was just by coincidence that I was introduced to the activity of a non-formal education class but I never knew that one particular class that I took will foster and change my life forever! Since then let’s say the rest is history. I started as an intern, explored my interest in education as the education coordinator, and then went on to become the program associate as well.

SAATH has been an impetus to not only my professional but personal growth! I feel like I graduated one tenure of my life from experiencing numerous moments with the team, women and children of the program. Resilience who was my well known enemy became my long lost best friend in these years at SAATH. I have learnt to lead, participate, learn and never give up. What I am taking from SAATH to my future is my seed of success which will fruit in due time with my other endeavors.

A huge hug to all who have been a part of our family, the SAATH family.

Ms. Brinda Bhattacharya, former Program Associate at SAATH, will soon be traveling to India to pursue her Master’s degree at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Her engagement with SAATH in the past 3 years has been truly rewarding for the organization. To this day, Brinda has been engaging with 5 beneficiaries of Awasar, a  livelihood program at SAATH. In 2021, she was awarded the Pollination Project Grant, which is supporting these beneficiaries.
