Story of Tshering.

Story of Tshering.

“Far beneath the bitter snows Lies the seed that with the sun’s love In the spring becomes the rose”

                                                                                                                                         The Rose-Bette Midler

Tshering along with her 3 brothers and her parents lived in Rasuwa, one of the most earthquake-affected areas. With poverty being at its peak and farming being the only source of income in the family, she had faced many problems in her childhood. As her mother was the only one who used to work and her father was an abusive alcoholic, who used to spend most of the families income on alcohol, Tshering being the eldest one in her family always felt responsible towards her brothers and family.

Life was not that easy for her. She was able to study until grade 5 with the help of an organization named “Umbrella”. Most of the time at her home, she use to sit in the corner weeping out of fear whenever her alcoholic father use to beat her mother. There were times when she felt like running away from all the troubles. Even as the time passed by her father never stopped abusing alcohol and their economic condition became even worse. Then she thought that she had enough, she had to do something to help her family. She had to do something so that her brothers would not have to suffer like the way she did. She just needed a little push, a little help to achieve her goals.

When SAATH started its new project Danfe, where they enrolled young girls who had been affected by the earthquake, Tshering became a part of this project by enrolling herself at the age of 19. At Danfe she will learn and enhance her tailoring skills as well as she will get basic education which would be beneficial for her everyday life.  SAATH is helping her achieve her goals. After finishing her training from SAATH she wants to open her own tailoring shop so that she can financially help her parents, help her brother with their education and also help other girls from her society by teaching them some tailoring skills. Tshering is someone we can learn from, she is a great inspiration for people out there who feel hopeless, who are not able to move along. She tells us and teaches us that no matter how hard life gets, a little hope is all that one needs.
